Looking for ideas on mounting a CB radio in the Discovery.

Want to keep the Radio/CD so that slot is out, so where did others fit theirs, and what about the aerial, mag mount? fixed bracket?

Ideas please :)

Peter

I used to have mine above the radio but the curly cable on the handset was in the way of the radio so i mounted it on the center console on the passenger side facing up just in front of the seat seems to work well there

I fitted mine in the cubby box behind the handbrake.fitted nicely and cables under neath the plastic.

In my new disco im putting cb above the sunvisor in the map trays on passanger side so the handset doesnt dangle in my face when laning.

I've had em mounted On the Dash (300TDI). ON the Trans Tunnel In the passenger footwell (200TDI) on the roof console (200TDI no sunroofs) and in the Drivers map tray (300Tdi Need to cut the tray)

To stop (sort of) the mic from dangling, put a length of elasticated cord inside the mic cord. and attach one end to the CB and tuther end to the Mic. It pullls the cable together when no in use.

Thanks for the replies, guys, much appreciated.

It's a TTI TCB1100, DIN radio fitting size but comes with standard bracket etc.

Up in the roof would be nice, although not too friendly to your head if you have a prang.

Aerial could be either on the B post or at the back on the rear quarter/corner, cable is long enough.

Keep 'em coming.

Peter

I've attached mine to a thin piece of ply that fits exactly in the cubby hole. The white foam on top allows me to close the lid and not damage the radio.

Wow, CB. Haven't done any of that for 30 years!

Still, I guess it's a lot cheaper than mobile phones when out with your mates.

I might dig my old Cobra set out for a laff. Not a clue where to fit it as its a bit of a lump by todays standards - I did use a slide mount so I could take it out of the car overnight. Think I still have that as well. I used to have it mounted somewhere under the dash on the passenger side in the old Mk1 Escort.

Is it still all on 27MHz FM? I remember a lot of arguements about the (then) illegal AM sets being better and having extra channels (side bands).

Looks like the cubby box option is going to win, it's close enough to power to make it easy to get connections to and can be hidden when not in use.

Aerial got us thinking a bit, didn't want to have a mag mount but the Thunderpole we have bought needs a decent anchor point, so we've got the side mounting for it and are going to pop in onto the rear corner panel at the back on the driver's side. That means we can access behind the panel by popping the rear light out, the cable can come through the body ventilation flap on that side and run down to the front behind the lower trim.

Philip (No2 Son) is doing the same, and he is going to sell his new TTI TCB550 and upgrade to the 1100 that I have ;)

mines just tucked down the side of the drivers seat, easy to reach all controls out of view and close to all power etc.
