Cb radio + aerial where is yours

Afternoon

What's everyone done with there cb radio in the freelander, I need some inspiration on where to fit mine, I'm thinking on the left side of the centre console
Then where have you guys fitted your whips

If this works, here's mine. It's a full size Cobra rig, I used 2" repair washers with m8 bolts to spread the load over the plastic, it's been fine with the off roading I've done. the power lead is tucked out of the way now, the pic was taken when installed & checking SWR.

The trig is using a mirror mount (longer bolts fitted) & an earth wire from 1 of the bolts going inside the plastic cover at the front to 1 of the roof bar bolts.

the view out of the rear view mirror is still good & the mic cord doesn't obstruct my view at all.

Cheers for the reply, I did think about roof mounting it but I think I would prefer it lower down as the back lit display would annoy me up there lol

To be honest, with mine, i'm not getting any issues with the back lighting at night. Even back in the '90s when I had my 2a, the rig was mounted in the same place & the back lighting never affected me either.

My Freeloader is the commercial with bulkhead (just visible), so I may not be able to move my seat as far back as with the cars

Ok after sitting in the car for two hours I have chosen my plan... I'm going to fabricate a new dash top tray. I'm going to make it so the cb sits under a new tray and have a couple of switches for accessories too

do you have a cubby box in yours? if so, just move the switches from center console to the cubby box and place radio under the heater control knobs.
I've seen the aerial mounted on the 3rd stop-light on some Freelanders and like the look of it, don't know if it's the best place for getting a good signal guess metal roof would be better.

I have made a work light mount that sits above the 3rd brake light and was going to re do this to take the whip... I do have a center cubby box but it's already got the rear windows switches in it. My car has heated seats that are switched from the dash so would be a pain.
When I build the new dash top tray I'm going to powder coat it in black crackle so it should blend in nicely with the rest of the interior

You got any details of the work light mount?

Teddywood on here makes them cheaply an sells them on eBay. I have one on mine for a work light but they are supposed to be for an aerial

This is the current work light mount I'm going to re do this to take an aerial too and add an extra fitting as it wobbles a little when I shut the rear door

That's quite a nifty little box you've made there.

I'm thinking of mounting my reversing camera monitor in that position (being a commercial & on business policy, the insurance company prefer both reversing alarm & either audio or visual warning other than mirrors), also got a couple of switch boxes, which I'll try to see which fits in the cubby hole above the CB, if neither fit, then I'll have to have another look, although I don't want to have to order another switch box

Cheers buddy, I just wanted something that would blend in a little better. Like that I don't loose any storage space, it's tidy and serves a purpose. It could me modded to take extra parts at a later date if needed.

i cut out a section from the centre console ,above the cig lighter , takes a little while to do but like others wanted to keep it nice and neat

also got one of the spare wheel carriers , still haven't got round to fitting my cb yet

Yeah I would have preferred to mount it in the standard console but my wagon has heated seats and the switches would fit in the cubby part
The dash pod will hopefully look ok when painted and fitted
