hi
looking for some advice want to carpet the inside rear load space, seatbox and bulkhead but unsure do i glue direct onto metal or onto plywood ?

have seen a lot of gel backed auto carpet but its a bit costly dont really want to use household carpet i.e. foam or rubber backed.

what adhesive can i use for sticking carpet to metal or wood ?

any help or advice welcome

Roy.

As a flooring guru, i would suggest you use impact adhesive ( like eve stick but in a stay can) this can be bought from your local flooring wholesalers, not a carpet shop they will stripe you up on price. when i done the back of my 90 i first fitted fibre board to the boxes and window surrounds then covered the window surround with fabric from car trimmers and the box's in heavy duty entrance matting, mind you the matting is expensive but i got mine for nothing. the fibre board also helps sound proofing

I'm using a high temp adhesive spray that will not degrade on hot days (can provide link upon request) to fix this closed cell foam on the floor, the sides and the roof: sound proofing & heat insulation sheet closed cell foam | eBay (towards bottom of page).

Then I'll be fixing 1.2m wide Studded Quality Rubber Matting 3mm on top of that on the floor. Then a funky coloured leatherette on the sides and roof (above the foam).

Wouldn't trust this route fully because I haven't fixed it all yet. But from what I've read it should be quieter, warmer and produce less condensation. Plus, provide more head-height due to the Defender lining being overly bulky, IMO anyway.

I lined miy rear tub with 20mm ply and then used 10mm high density closed cell flooring material that comes in 600mm squares with interlocking edges. It looks like chequer plate, is very robust and waterproof(ish). To fit it I used 50mm double sided tape that window fitters use to attach uPVC trim inside and out, very strong and weather proof.

Oooh, any pics? Especially the detail of the trim below the rear door as I'm about to tackle that myself ;)

As you can see my 90 is not really geared up for passengers in the rear. The flat floor is more useful than standard for me although the high loading height can be an issue, below the flat floor is my spare wheel and tools etc.
The first picture is after lining with ply.
The second picture shows the rubber flooring in place, I used the same stuff on the hardtop side panels.
The third picture is the flooring material I used.

Just replaced my stolen 110 with one that's been carpeted. Looks good an looks like the sides have been lined first. I didn't do it but if you want any photos of any part of it then let me know. It has a rear roof liner too :D
