Hello Everyone...

I have a 2.5 Manual Turbo Diesel Discovery 1 - 2door...its a 1998.

Fitted with a crash/bull bar at the front and the tail light protectors at the back.

1) I am planning to repaint it from the burgundy colour to a gray, eventually.

2) Also i would like to change up the interior...a bit...because since it is 2 door...sometimes its a bit of a hassle for the above average person to squeeze through the space to get in the back...so i was wondering if i can do like defender side back sitting...i know there is the wheel hump but i would have seen if it is possible when i removed the back seat...with that it may be able to hold 4 back there...because i don't want the seats at the back from the sides anyway( i mean the fold out ones that come with it)...and this will let people enter through the back...with the step up and i realised that it will allow them more air from the lil tilted window was well...

NOW its just to find a way to get that done !! LOL!...

3) I just replaced my road tires with A/T Toyo Open Country ! but i haven't been back offroading since being stuck with the road tyres...i guess i wanna be prepared a bit more cause that morning i was on my way to work...trying a shortcut that took 2 hours and a shameful tractor removal lollol !! so i would like any suggestions on what i should do for better offroading capabilities...because i read here the cons of lifting...and all that...so anything else i can do...cause i know its a heavy vehicle !!

4) I don't know if my Turbo Diesel Engine is performing at its best...i mean it has an upgraded turbo...and it is running 18psi...but it seems so useless for offroading...don't know why and i am honestly a newbie at offroading but not driving !! lol... on road it isn't slow at all though but i mean like when it is on a little incline sometimes it feels like if it just wouldn't want to move without smoking up the place...no matter how good you are on the clutch !

5) I am honestly not very happy with how my Landy Steers...i am wondering if my shocks may need changing but my mechanic says not...but it handles weird, and sometimes the wheels don't seem to be steering properly...and it feels dangerous...any ideas what that could be...??

6) Then finally the exterior looks...other than the paint job...the new tint ( i have to get cause my tint is looking purple) cause the Caribbean is HOTT !! LOL ! and the already existant bars...what else can you say would make a disco look more aggressive...i was thinking of maybe spacing the tires out a bit...and getting some wheel arches made...tell me what you think and what are the pros and cons of wheel spacing !

I know its alot...and i am a newbie...but i guess i am kinda planning to keep my jeep for a couple years or more...because i am only 21... i would appreciate any help...Thanks alot...looking forward to it...:)

If you are concerned with steering accuracy the first thing I would do is to redo-bush the vehicle using a set like this:

- Britpart_Bush_Kits

Steering... try a search. there are lots of things it could be from bushes or shocks or bearings or pivots etc... try the free/cheap options first ... adjust the pivot bearings. Is your steering wheel sloppy? can you turn it a bit before it takes up the slack? if so look for steering box adjustment, another really easy thing to do. Check for ball joint wear and bushes and then go for the shocks (good article on here for that with pics), and of course the steering damper... but do that last as it could mask the real problem.

Good luck.

I think if your not happy with it and rather than throw a bucket load of money at it you should just sell it and buy a 5 door in a colour you like.
Also get a V8 with LPG for more power.
Off roading isnt about speed.

well in the Caribbean( the options are very limited...they aren't much in good condition on the island)...we can't get 5 door's that easily...and they are mainly automatic...if so...also most are diesel 2.5...so i would have to buy a v8 engine...LOL at if i live on the beach...i live near enough ! LOL ! i am looking at it now. I will get the suspension and the bushings and all those things checked out on friday because honestly it is driving ridiculous...Thanks for your replies...any more advice would be greatly appreciated...on the other things as well...Thanks...

That'll do for me I not that fussy, sun sea and sand beats rainy stoke anyday LOL:D

LOL ! true ! Does anyone know if it is possible to reconfigure the back of a Disco...like how i want to...in my number (2)...thanks i would appreciate all the help possible !! thanks and on the others as well ! as for the steering i will be getting that checked out monday!

Regarding your rear seatng question...just a thought, but maybe you could install a 2nd hand Land Cruiser 'troop carrier' seat in the back, they secure to the side and can fold up when not needed. They are not very comfortable or large, but they work.

I'd say this would be a welding job to mount, and the seatbelts would need to be mounted somewhere too.

You would have to check this out with the local authorities probably - to see if they would accept this as a suitable modification.

At the risk of sounding rather crass. Even on road tires the disco is a very capable vehicle. A careful and thoughtful line will get a long way, off road tires can just mean getting even further into trouble before becoming stuck
Change the air filter and try some SVO or retail fuel additive/injector cleaner and a the fastest, longest blast on good roads you can manage. Then change the fuel filter and drain any sludge out of the sedimenter.

Discos often dont feel like they do corners. If having driven road vehicles for some time the first drive in a big 4x4 can be quite alarming even though nothing is actually wrong. My first thought would be replace steering damper, especially if the steering feels "notchy".
6) Then finally the exterior looks...other than the paint job...the new tint ( i have to get cause my tint is looking purple) cause the Caribbean is HOTT !! Spacers increase the stress load on the hub bearings. They can also result in a wider turning circle, something thats already not one of the discos best points. Narrow tracks/gates/lanes become relatively narrower, as do parking spaces.
