ello all I need to suckle on the nipple of your collective knowledge.
My landy is driving me mad with over reving on idle ,loss of pull away power (It dies then will take off, i have to give it the beans to pull away at the lights) i have to drive with the choke open slightly to beable to pull away but this is not doing my wallet much good. I have tried to adjust the air mixture but the screw doesn't seem to do any thing for the flat spot or the revs.
So Will a twin choke webber carb from a 2.0 ford transit fit on the manifold of my 2.5 defender 90 and work ok? I just need to keep the old girl going until christmas has gone and i dont want to spend a fortune on a new carb.
Then in the new year i going to fit her with a 200tdi or 300tdi.

Just wanted to say :welcome2: to the nut house!

Think about it logically ... A carb designed for a 2L Ford going onto a 2.5L Rover?

You don't say what model or year the transit was ... It would help!

If the mounting holes are in the right place, and the big hole underneath marries up to the big hole in the top of manifold, and you fit new jets, then yes, there is no reason why it shouldn't work.

After all, you just want a bit of go-go juice squirting through it, don't you?

Make sure that you fit a thick rubber gasket/spacer between them and you should have no problems.

Thanks for the welcome.

Its the same twin choke you used to get on the cortina, capri and Granada and i think they went up to 2.3 before they changed

Why not just give the original carb a damn good clean out, nice easy carb to strip. Fit new gaskets above and below the isolator block. Turn the idle mixture screw right in till it stops (don't force it) then turn it back out 1 1/4 turns. Also check the vacuum pipe for splitting.
Let us know if you do it and how you get on. :D

I'll have a go at giving it a clean over the weekend. will let you know how i got on.

Just had a thought (takes ages these days) :D Before you strip the carb just squeeze the vacuum pipe with some pliers, if that drops the idle speed you may well have a leaking advance/retard pod on the strib.

Had loads of probs with my webber on my 110, stripped it down, took the jets apart, they pull apart, do 1 at a time, sprayed them with carb cleaner and used an areosol of compressed air to blow them out.
Sorted the problem.
Webbers are very fussy about being clean.

Just give the vac pipe a squeeze and there was no difference in the revs looks like its gonna be a strip down for the carb.
Think i'll get some beer in and spend my weekend cleaning my carb.
Cheers for the advice chaps.

found the prob it was a blocked oil cap breather. cleaned it out with white spirit and it got better.:D
