Hi all,

(2000 P38, 4.0 THOR)

did my usual run in to town this morning without issue. Then took the dog for a walk, again, no issue.
Just gone out to take the dog for an afternoon walk and nothing. The dash lights up as normal, fans come on but when I turn the key, all I get is a click under the bonnet and the BECM and nothing else.

I've checked with nanocom to make sure it's no immobilised and that comes back clear. Tried key in the ignition, hitting the buttons etc, again nothing.

There's no dimming of lights or anything when trying to crank either.

Any suggestions? I'm in the dangerous position right now of the RR being my only car as I recently sold the rest..

Surely there'd be signs of fatigue before complete failure?

How would one test it? (that was my next step.. was gonna search for what relay and contacts to short to test)

Great. That's all I need.

starting a new job, moving house... ****ed starter motor! yay for life.

So, replacement or refurb? Been looking at posts and it's ranging between 30 minutes and 7 hours to replace...?!

As the house is half packed up, I don't have my main pc with RAVE. Downloading it just now on the laptop but it's taking an age.

So, to speed things up - can someone tell me where the starter on this thing is? The ground is sodden outside so don't wanna be crawling around and can't identify it from the top down.

Have bought a replacement off emmots on ebay. Guess I wont be moving this week then!

Hopefully have it sorted for the weekend.

You have checked the battery haven't you? Fully charged and no loose terminals. I know its obvious but a single click when turning the ignition on in my previous experience has always been flat battery. Not sure if the P38 has it but I would suspect so, some of my previous cars if they detected a fairly low voltage they wouldn't even try and start for fear of totally killing the battery etc...

Nah, battery is fine :)

Replacement starter arrived today. Have a guy coming to fit tonight or tomorrow. Can't wait to get back on the road!
