hi freelander 1 1.8 petrol I have vibration not on steering ,more the whole car so far ,changed track rod ends , bottom ball joints , changed all 4 tyres for new , taken off prop now 2 w/drive vibration over 30 mph on acceleration not when accelerator off if you know what I mean whats next drive shafts any ideas most welcome thanks

Do you have a slight metallic rattling when turning left?. Is there any underlying noise with this vibration?.

Did the vibration change, get less or worse, when the props came off? If so it could be the lower engine mount or the rear diff mounts. Although they tend to create 'clunks' I believe more than vibration.

I believe the front ARB bushes have been known to create vibration if they're worn. As you say, could be the drive shafts.

Does anyone know if the flywheel on the K Series can give problems? Doesn't the TD4 flywheel have a tendency to 'delaminate' or something?

However, are you sure its a mechanical vibration, not an engine issue such as fuel starvation or an electrical (ignition) issue (plugs/leads etc)?

Damaged/bent exhaust pipe touching something?
Lower engine stay bar rubber bush shot?
Upper hydralastic? engine mount shot?
For the first three does the motor rock or move when rev'd?

Crankshaft pulley delaminating? or not centred accurately.
Diff mounts shot?

+1 on all of the above.

If all above found to be ok, i have the feeling it is the start of a gearbox issue. More feedback would be nice though.

more feed back sir :) rear diff mounts are ok ,new , engine does not rock so I believe mounts ok vibration really when I accelerate .not had chance to look at shafts that was my next thing to change ,no metallic noise ,before I took prop off I put in reverse and full lock moved really easy no feeling of hand brake on ,no clicking on full lock left or right

:eek:its going into local garage tomorrow to have a look at ,as I work all day I only get wk ends to look at it lets hope its not gear box:eek:

Thanks for the feedback :)

Have seen this before, but usually rather strangely with a slight metallic rattle turning left only (had already fitted new drive shafts etc). 2 months later the gearbox went U/S big style. It was noticeable in a power on, power off situation with an almost tingling vibration through the car when power applied.

No rattle for you, so fingers crossed it's something simple.
