Car starts, but stops when idling. Broken head gasket?

Hi!

I've got a 97' P38 with a 2.5 DSE motor. In the past the car have used a bit of coolant. Today I've got a new problem: the car starts, but stops when idling.

Could a broken head gasket may be the cause? Any other causes?

how much water is it losing??.have you checked the oil filler cap for a whitish foam/sludge in it,also any water in the oil.

Other causes could be fuel filter, air filter, various sensors etc, you need to get the fault codes read or you are just guessing.
