Cant engage gear with engine running

Have you removed the pressure plate? In such cases I usually find broken springs on the clutch plate.

Yes, it had the clutch plate in between it and the pressure plate. the clutch plate seems fairly undamaged as well.

I assume you bolted the pressure plate down evenly the last time you fitted it? At least you have found the issue and its not a gearbox rebuild!
