Afternoon all,

Had plenty of land rovers in the past from a defender to 200 and 300 discos and a TD5 disco.
Just bought a range rover sport TDV8 and there's a whining which i can only describe as sounding like a supercharger, the Hawkeye picks up no fault codes, the truck drives perfectly with no smoke or other issues.

The only thing i noticed was that the ace fluid was slightly below the minimum level, topped it up and the noise remains,
It appears to be coming front the very front of the engine driver side, after switching the engine off it makes a few strange squeeks like a knackered bearing is still slowing down to a stop.

The truck was sat up for around 4 months and the seller says it wasnt making that noise previously

any help on this is much appreciated

if the ace pump is this big silver lump then it certainly sounds like its coming from that area

Wammers ?

Viscous fan?
Strange how it runs on after engine stopped.
had an electric fan that sounded ok while running until power off and it slowed down, sounded like a bag of nails:eek:

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.
I'll get under the bonnet at the weekend, remove the fan, then the aux belt and see if i can systematically work it out.

i managed to get a free afternoon so pulled out the viscous fan and removed the alternator belt which stopped the squeeling noise.
The tensioner pulley has loads of play in it, when removed i found the bearing to be knackered, grinding and notchy.

new pulley ordered, lets hope that's going to cure it... will be a very cheap and easy win!

changed both diff oils to find the old oil remarkably clean, looks like this old girl has been looked after, gearbox, transx box next then a full engine service

Not a lot to contaminate transmission oils unless the breathers have been underwater or you have an oil seal shot.

Sounds like The noise after the engine is turned off are the egrs cycling, which is normal

it’s there to prevent them from seizing up

or is the turbo actuator cycling , again normal
