Hai guys,

Can I boost my 2.3 petrol Engine? That it get a little bit more horsepower.
How I can do that?

Nitrous. Or only drive downhill. You could probably throw a lot of money at a series engine and get a tiny power increase but I doubt it's worth it - it's got enough power to get your landy almost anywhere without breaking the drivechain. It could be your engine is old and tired or poorly set up and a recon or tune up might get you the results you're looking for.

A petrol swb should manage 60 to 70 on the flat with a bit of a run up - if it won't manage that it might well be in need of some tlc.

A 9:1 head and a better carb (SU or DMTL) make a big difference. However if you want to find stuff like this out there is _loads_ of stuff about tuning on the internet and in lots of books. To get anywhere you will need to read a lot.

Also, as stated a SWB is not a sports car but it should be fairly nippy checkign compression, timing, state of the carburettor and tune, tappets, cam chain, cams, etc etc and get it running properly before trying to tweak it otherwise you'll be ****ing in the wind

I think time and money is better spent on ensuring the running gear is all working well and efficiently. Fresh oils in gearbox, diffs etc. good wheel bearings, tracking set up correct, brakes not catching, uj's greased and tyres inflated correctly. You can't polish a turd, where the engine is concerned, if more power is needed i would go down the engine change route. Personally, gently does it....i enjoy the retro leisurely pace :)

I remember reading about Janspeed turbocharging a 5MB 2 1/4, Think about the size of the 200Tdi turbo and using a drawthrough setup and made about 130-140 Bhp :D

Take out the old engine and fit a V8. Lots more power & torque, but about the same MPG.

Edit, just don't ask Dr Evil to do the conversion for you :D

....and uprate the gearbox, rest of the drivechain and the brakes. With power comes responsibility......

How deep are your pockets for fuel? I had a 2.25 petrol that was set up well and did around 13 mpg around town on very short runs. 18 to 20 max on long runs. A V8 I ran was no worse, I now run a 2.25 diesel Slow yes but 26/27 mpg. Remember the transmission wont take a big power increase all series boxes are now long in the tooth and have usually had a rebuild or two. A good choice is a 200tdi Disco engine and leave the turbo off this will give a nice safe 70/75 hp

I got the Stage 2.1 head and hi torque cam from ACR. I went with a DMTL Weber though not their SU kit. I get 20mpg on the lanes round here and about the same at 80 on the motorway. I'd probably get better mileage locally but I spend probably 70% of the time on the choke. I've had 25mpg on one 45mph long run. I measure full tank to full tank for accuracy.

I've tuned the Carb at stoich for idle and cruise and very slightly rich at WOT. I could probably get another couple of mpg by dropping one idle jet size and one main jet 1/2 size without affecting driveability.

I've also put on Range Rover diffs and an overdrive. It now drives lovely, uses less fuel and will fly up hills (even with the higher diff ratio).

I've spent a fair amount on the engine and enjoyed every minute of it. If you're not a tinkerer or got limitless time but deep pockets I'd be very tempted by their 2.8 engine...again though I'd still put DMTL Weber on it....

Just added a spare wheel carrier on the back instead of carrying it on the bonnet it now goes round corners at speed instead of acting like a bucking broncho!

Not deep, but I think a v8 is the best solution to my "problem".
