Can anyone help? I have only recently bought my P38 and they came with 20" Alloys, I am experiencing vibration through out the car at higher speeds 65+ and based on other threads on this forum, I am wondering whether I need Spigot rings or not, The wheels nuts are the standard P38, but i don't know based on others commetns if these are standard Land Rover/Range Rover wheels off another model,
I have attached a photo on profile page......

Any comment swelcome.

Thanks

OK I;m A TW*T, just been to check the tyre pressures and they are 19".....don't know where I got 20" from maybe wishful thinking........

So I will need spigots then?

Thanks J.

I will take one of the wheels off this week end and have a gander.......hopefully this will be sorted soon.......

Cheers

C.

OK Will do.....Can you see them if you take off the centre cap? or are they not that obvious?

The centre cap usually comes off from the inside of the wheel so you'd need to take the wheel off anyway. I don't think it would help anyway though. The spiggott ring sits on the hub and you may find it on the hub or in the wheel itself.

Mine are like a short thin walled tube with a rim that stops them sliding about. Worth having a look on fleabay anyway to make sure you know what you're looking for. That might sound silly, but I didn't know when I was checking mine.

I can prise the centre caps out on mine, so I might try and have a look at dinner time........I had a look on spigots.com and they were quite thick poly/nylon type rings.......I will look later on E-bay as I cannot access through work....

Thanks again...

OK....Getting somewhere......I have just prised the centre caps off, and on all 4 wheels there appears to be an aluminium/steel sleeve around the hub, I am 'assuming' that this is a spacer/spigot of some sort....the thing is how tight a fit should these be? as i put my fingers in and moved them in and out slightly? are they the wrong size?

I'm surprised they move. Mine don't.

Was that with the wheel on the ground (ie weight on the hub)?

Guy

If they're moving then they're not doing their job centring the wheels on the hub, as nuts alone won't necessarily get them dead centre, hence the vibration. However it's also well worth ensuring the wheels are balanced properly as large 4x4 tyres are often difficult to get right, I tend to stand over the fitter to make sure he doesn't settle for as good as, rather than dead on. Sometimes if it won't balance it can be worth turning the tyres on the rims a bit and trying again.

Thanks Kernowdragon, I had the wheels balanced as soon as I bought the car...I beleive they were balanced correctly, as the guy respun the wheels a second time and stood back away from the machine just to show me each time he after it showed zero...so fairly confident there......I think the best course of action is take a wheel off and have a look at these spigots with the wheel off.........

Thanks All.

Chris

All sorted...the spigotts were not all of the way on the hub and the alloys sat behind the spiggot directly on the hub....only on one of the rear wheels, but makes a hell of a difference....

Thanks for everyones help.
