This should be a V8 in NAS Discovery, can someone help to decode this number, because i would like to know the details.

WYF 12
HRC2411

Where are you getting the engine number from?...thats not a V8 engine number...its stamped to the left of the dipstick on the block... that looks like a casting number...
If the engine has been replaced at any time & a Rover block used the number may not be by the dipstick but on top of the rear of the block on the left-hand (as viewed from the driver's seat looking forward) bank of the V. May need a mirror to see it.

That is the cast number for a 4.0 thor :D

Depending on the cast, upto 1998-99, they used the HRC2411 casting. After this particular date rover V8 blocks used the LCF000250 casting all D2's introduced around 1998 in euro and about half of the P38 production used the same casting. All D1's used the HRC2411 casting.

Engine number is stamped on an area just down by the Dipstick entry to the block. It reads:
FIRST-LINE is Compression Ratio (CR"X.YZ":1)
Second Line "Engine Serial Number in Full."
