I have a knackered lt77 box out of a defender and the chance of a good box from a disco. can you put the bellhousing and shaft from the defender box into disco one and can you put the defender gearlinkage on top of the box on??

Any help much appreciated before i waste even more money!!

Thanks Bill

just found out its a santana box out of a v8 disco. are the ratios the same?

Thanks Bill

santana lt85 22c or lr lt85 20c are only fitted in v8 defenders, discos used oil cooled lt77 orr380 like rrc ,what engine is in your defender

so your original gearbox is lt77 50a or 56a short bellhousing ,which will need replacing for another ,all the other have longer bellhousings and input shafts and would require engine moving ,disco lt77 can be changed to fit but requires a complete rebuild ,and new input shaft

Ive been told the santana box is stronger. But its no good if ratios are wrong or i cant get it to fit.

gears are bigger but it has its faults ,bearings been one ,v8 only without conversion kit,and longer than defender lt77,in 4th gear all the gearboxes are the same ratio ,so the rest arent going to be far out

To revive this thread rather than start a new one......

.....could one drop a 300tdi into a santana ps10 ? Im tempted by the santana and its comfy cab , 2wd option etc but not keen on common rail injection engines ......obviously all engine management systems aside !
