Just had my cambelt done at the local specialist and they reckon by the state of it, this was its 1st change. My FL 2.0 DI has done 123000 miles, so over due by a little bit! The bloke at the garage says that it obviously needed doing, but he has never heard of one of these cambelts snapping. Any one out there got any opinions and no I dont mean you lucky TD4 owners who dont have to worry!:)

most servicing times are well below what the item can actually cope wiff. they do it as they do fer two reasons,
to ensure the fooker dint snap thus giving them a bad rap

to get more money from you

i have nevva serviced any of me vehicles according to what the manufactor says. i just do it when it feels abart right.
they tell you to change plugs and stuff every so often.
why?
if its working leave the fooker alone, gives you more time to sit in front of yer computor in yer pants and vest
but ah dint think i'd leave a cam belt that long, not even i could hope for it to survive that long.

p.s you dint happen to know what make it was do ya?

Dont know the make but its part number is LHP100840. Dont know if that helps. Also had fuel injection pump belt changed and the AUX belt. Could of done that one myself, but I was feeling lazy.

What is the "recommended" cambelt change interval for a 1.8 petrol then (and what does it cost)?

Mine is on 54k now.
