Bloke I bought my M reg 300 TDI told me the engine had been rebuilt after the last owner ran it till it stopped after the water ran out, strange that after all the money on re-building the engine the cam belt was not changed. I had it changed for a lot of money, it seem's the old problem came back to haunt the old girl as she almost seized up while towing the caravan. Question why not change the belt? I would have thought it an obvious thing to do.

Andy.:confused::confused:

Probably coz he didnt do the rebuild either.....just drained the sump and filled the engine full to the brim with parafin and allowed it to soak to free itself off.

Sorry Andy.....i'm a mechanic to trade, it was the first thing i used to try with a freshly seized lump to see if it would free itself to try and save my customers money. But i would be honest and tell them what i would be doing and why i was doing it.

I can see him now putting the blame on the fact I had the belt changed, however the belt was changed by a mechanic at a garage, I'll try and see him tomorrow for his excuses.

Andy.

Dave, I too am a mechanic with over 39 under my belt but I've never heard of anyone doing that before.
If an engine seizes it always pulls metal out of shape, no amount of soaking in parafin will cure that. :confused:
