hi all I'm new to the land-rover scene so thought id do the sensible thing and join your great site,Ive got a series3 to look at this weekend and was hoping someone on here could advise me on what to look for what questions to ask and where to find Vin/id numbers etc,any info would be greatly appreciated

Check the whole thing over properly with particular attention to the chassis and bulkhead. Check the front axle for wear and pitting of the chromed swivel housings - they take a lot of work to rebuild. Chassis number is stamped on the front offside spring hanger and on a plate rivited to the bulkhead above the transfer lever.

If you can drive it, make sure it doesnt jump out of gear, 1st to 4th and 2wd/4wd, check the dippy for mayo, and the header tank for bubbles.

Rust. Chassis, bulkhead, axle casings. Really depends on how much you plan on spending. If you're laying out thousands you want it to be as right as possible however if you're buying an old well used landy for a few hundred quid you can't really expect much.

ok thanks for the replys, all i know is its a 1969 and been in dry storage for many years so dont know what to expect, obviously no mot or tax so i"ll let you know how i get on.
