Buying parts on-line

What experience have you folks had of buying parts on-line. I don't necessarily mean on eBay, more from suppliers listed on Google etc. Is it less expensive than purchasing over the counter from dealerships or motor factors? What if the part supplied is the wrong one? Are returns/refunds a hassle? Is there an outfit on the net you would recommend?

I don't cause I've had too many "hassles" in the past with quite a few of them

list or examples, wrong parts, lost parts, extra parts !, parts of poor quality, parts with bits missing

Then late deleiveries, lost deleiveries, well more we tried to deliver to you but you were out, so its at the sorting office (brill thats another 20 mile round trip) sorting office only open 8am -11am

So in the end might was well go round to a local landy shop, shorter jounery pay extra maybe but at least get the right part, chance to examine, inspect it, pay cash, go home get the job done quick, no waiting.

I use 2 local dealers, Safari Engineering and Challenger 4x4. They are more expensive than online initially, but when you add P&P, having to wait in for parts or get them redelivered somewhere you can't get to on a Saturday, only to find it's the wrong part.
Whereas a local dealer is just easier on the sanity. "Here's the dead bit, have you got one?", pay and go.

ive used paddocks a bit and never had any problems with them.

i used paddocks quite a bit with very mixed results. Ordered some wheel bearings from them yesterday, here today. Other times i've had duff stuff which just didn;'t work, the wrong stuff (apparently they're notorious for this!) or stuff that has taken 2 weeks to get here. They are relativey cheap though, and you can talk to them - they are pretty honest, the postage they put on their site and at the checkout is a worst case scenario and they always charge you what it actually cost. Ebay for parts i've heard is pretty good (landyman or something?)

paddocks and mm 4x4 are always good and i have never had any problems with them.

as for paddocks just the quality of some of the stuff no issues online with either

buying part online, is great time saver. I bought loads of part from Rover North and have been pleased each time. No bargains, but good part on time w/out going to the parts store.

What I now do is get the part numbers from my parts catalogue, do an online search on John Craddock, get the prices, write them down, go to Deaslership and they match the prices! Nice result - genuine parts at the same price as cruddy copies!

Just searched craddocks for brake pistons for my 87 td90 and they don't list any brake parts at all for any 90's pre 1990. nor for any 110 pre 1987. So it would appear there ok for newer vehicle but crap for older ones.

I also use beamends when craddocks don't have the part you actually need (guaranteed), or do an online search just using the part number - the dealer don't care where you get your prices from as long as they are actual prices

saying that I got brake parts for my 1989 90 from craddocks last year

Do you know if this is general LR policy to price match on parts, or are you just a very lucky bastid and get genuine bits cheap.

Never thought of asking for a price match from main stealers before.

did it in both Edinburgh dealers - think theyd rather sell something than not.

Did in when buying my 110 too - got an import price and they matched it saving me just under 4 grand!!! (maybe I am a lucky beeastard!)
