Hello everyone.I have temporarily migrated to this section from the discovery section to ask for advice.
I am looking for advice on getting a freelander for my better half due to an increase in the size of our family (numbers that is not weight).
I dont know much about the model itself.
My budget will prob be 3 to 3500 k.
I am looking at a diesel 5 door model.
What sort of condition / spec can i expect for this and what should i be looking at when viewing. The only thing i know technically about them is that early models i think had cyl head gasket issues.
An advice / pointers will be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
oh and what sort of milages are they good for

hgf affected the petrol k series engines

l-series diesel is best but slow
td4 is most sort after engine.

problems with vcu stiffening causes failure of ird (front diff) and rear diff

can usually spot vcu stiffening by saw tooth pattern on rear tyres

Put 3 - 3.5k into ebay and autotrader and see what comes up is the best way to get a steer on the market. I don't have an oil burner myself, so cant give u heads up on them - lots of folks on here will let you know.

If you want my advice steer well clear of them and buy yourself another Disco, I had a disco for 5 years that gave me very little trouble. Then the wife decided she wanted a smaller 4x4 and liked the Freelander, bought the one I have about 16 months ago and has been nothing but trouble in that time. It had done only 70,000 mls so thought it would be a good buy HOW WRONG WAS I!!!!!. Now looking for Disco TD5 to replace it.

What's gone wrong with it mate? Usually once the transmission is sorted out they are now worse than any other LR.

OP, I spotted this on ebay this morning - seller really seems to care and has done alot of the expensive leg work. Absolute bargain if you ask me.
