Evening to you all and hello from Cape Town !

I was hoping you guys could help, I am considering buy a v8 series 2 SE. Its a 2003 with about 50 000 miles on the clock, has a full LR history up until about 40K.

The dealer gave me the vehicle for the weekend to see what I think and make my mind up, during this time some issues have surfaced that I was hoping you guys could help me with so I might make a more informed decision.

1. First major issue is I noticed the exhaust was VERY loud. further inspection reveals that the center box is no longer attached to the rear box...question: if they replace the center box would it be worth doing away with the CATs as we do not have MOT issues like the UK does, if yes are the CATs in the center or at the manifold??

2. I noticed also a small amount of oil around the front diff, after standing a small amount of oil is visible on the driveway. is this serious or just a few seals?? a it of a open question but would appreciate as mush info as possible.

3. the air compressor below the passenger side, I guess this is for the rear suspension bags and AEC. Every now and then when I hear the pump start to run for a few seconds followed by a hiss as her is released...much like a trucks air brake. Is there a leak on the system somewhere or is this normal??? also there is no cover over the pump and related electrics, I assume i can buy this as a spare...? if so anyone have the LR part number please?

Interior is great, all the electrics work 100%....only drivers side electric motor sounds a bit sick.....is this expensive to solve down the line?

Other than these issues can you guys give me any other advice what to look for that is weak on this model?

I would REALLY like some help as I need to make my mind up in the next day or so.......

Again...thanks and look forward to your info !

They eat fuel. But have a good search through the service history, see if you can get a swatch at the pooter and look for water loss issues, and any other nasties.

Do a search on here and you will find the things to look for.
