Hi,

I'm after a Defender 110, for around £7k. Looking around this seems to get
me everything from a 1990 to a 1998 age vehicle. The requirement of the
vehicle is to be my everyday run about (reasonably reliable) and be an
expedition / weekend vehicle at other times.
Can anyone suggest any good Land Rover dealers that I can go and have a look
at them not too bothered about location as I can get around the country
easily enough.
What questions should I be asking, and what should I be looking for /
avoiding?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
David

some idea of rough area would be handy, though. I doubt for example you'd
want to come from Scotland to look at vehicles in west Wales...

FWIW, evenso, I've had good results and have a good opinion of J.V. Like, in
3 Cocks, near Hay-on-Wye.

I live in South Wales / Bristol Area, but I have family in Lincolnshire,
Lancashire and Aberdeenshire, so for a good one I don't mind travelling.

My biggest concern is having "stalked" this newsgroup for a while about all
the supposed issues and problems I might encounter, what are upgrades that
Land Rover made over the years that would be better to have or not.

Thanks for the hint on J.V. Like I have seen a fair few of their adverts on
Land Rover wheel covers around and they seem to have had nothing bad said
about them.

What sort of price differences am I going to see between LR Dealer /
Independant and Private. Where should I be looking?

Thanks
David

dealers are always more pricey. You may gain something in the way of
warranty on a newish one, or you may not. The 1995 300 TDi disco we have
came from Likes; in August 2003, was on their forecourt for 7995, but had
full history and low (about 75K) miles, we negotiated it down to 7700 and
got them to throw in a recon alternator (the original had a noisy bearing).

at the time, that was a touch on the high side - by diligent searching,
could probably have got similar condition and age for maybe 6500, I reckon,
privately.

luck of the draw what SH vehicles are at any given outlet, unless of course
you phone 'em first.

I'd have to say
www.rogersofbedford.co.uk
but I'd be biased as I work for a part of the group.
No really, they are good. Several regulars on here have dealings, not
just me.
