buying a 2 A

hi all i am buying a 2 A on monday 1964 ish its non taxable anyway its a good runner with mot and a free tax for a year its a bit rough in places .2.25 derv .the only thing that concerns me is the rear tub it seems to have a lot of filler in a line .from say door handle height above wheel arch along the wing on both sides .its ex mod just wondering if anything was fixed on here then been removed . i think i will have to get some second hand panels to make a good job of it. or can you buy over panels and just rivet them on .its my first landrover and will be a running project . dont want it perfect just to look presentable as it will only be used for my dogs and trips to the dump . so now its time to read all the old posts and educate myself befor i ask any more daft questions

Buy a complete tub.

yes looked at that but looks like a long job .not to bad with spaners but would just like to run it awhile before i get into taking it to bits as i have a habit of loosing things then get fed up .i like to do jobs in a day then i know there done and her indoors wont be moaning

buy a new one then and fit halfords attachments all can be done in less than a day ,a classic series requires some work to make right which may take longer than a day to do ,new panels or used will be around somewhere,its only drilling and riveting

You should be able to unbolt your old rotten tub, clean up the brackets and refit a replacement on a Sunday afternoon.

Look on the inside of the tub you should be able to see the back side of the repair. this may give you a clue as what was fixed.
Most things on a A2 are fixable just make sure you have as much original parts as possibul.

thanks people will update the full extent of its condition when i get it home. i know it will take work but i want to keep it rolling for as long as possible before i start any major work and take my time .because if i dont i will end up with a load of bits and not a clue how to put it back together.

You may discover that the damage line is where the rear wheel boxes join the outer skin.
over the years the aluminium work hardens and cracks, this is why you sometimes see people use chequer plate on the sides:doh:

I have the same on my landie, PO has used filler which has cracked. I will need to do mine sometime as well.
you can just about see the damage in the attached photo, is your damage in the same place?

Erm, where's your damage? It's missing bends, scratches and dirt. You sure it's a land rover.
