Right, I bin offered 8.2K from the insurance company for me Disco' wot me brother pranged. The best price they've given for a buy back is 2.2K and they're gonna waive the 200 squid excess, which leaves me with 6K to fix it up etc....
I'm expecting to be able to get it sorted with that, but I'm not sure what's involved with gettin it through a cat c test. I'm a bit green when it comes to this and was hoping someone on here has done this before, or knows what's involved.
I'm still in two minds about getting a defender though, was looking at the land rover monthly magazine earlier and spotted a nice looking expedition ready depender 110 for 7K, had a roof tent an everyfink

......Hmmmmmmmmm very very tempted.

If it's that D2 in the avator then unless it's particularly special I would pobably buy it back off them and break it for spares.

6K is a lot of cash to be putting right a D2 IMHO, especially a pre facelift one - if indeed that is yours there.

I,d have thought £ 8200 would get you a pretty nice, late Disco.

But if youre attached to your old Disco then thats a different matter.

Apparantly thats about what my good condition 2002 facelift with leather and 85k on is worth !.

Blimy

I bought a 2003 TD5 S 5 seater ex heathrow security for £4600.

Admittedly the bodywork is not brilliant in places and it had done 109000 miles but still.

In any case I would have thought that the difference (6k) could get him a good one

Its hard to guage prices.

One minute you read how someone can only find pre 2000 high milers for big money, and the next minute you hear of someone picking up a face lift for less than £ 4k.

More snow needed !!!!!!.

V I C test is straight forward, as long as your car has chassis numbers on it, from memory £ 40 at your nearest vosa centre. Its not a test on your repair, more the check that the car is genuine (not a ringer)

Yeah, it is the one in the pic'. I don't plan on pumping the whole 6K into it, I'm hoping to get most of it sorted with used parts.

8.2K was the bottom book price for mine, that's apparantly what most insurwanks companys offer for write orfs.

Don't want any more snow just yet, at least until I get me disco' sorted, or get another landy. I'm stuck driving around in a beemer 330ci until then....they just follow gravity in slippy stuff, not funny!

£8200 is not a bad payout for that. It looks no later than a 2001 would I be right?

What exactly needs doing to it btw?

dunt fergit that if you put your Cat C car back on the road it is only ever insured for 10% of the current glass's guide price (why should the insurance pay out twice on the same vehicle, is there reason for this) go with a 110 and enjoy it !!!!

Rubbish they pay out the market value of the vehicle, mother had a cat C Peugeot estate that I put back on the road, which she then totalled and got paid out just over four grand which was about 85% of book price.

I think he may mean that they may knock off 10% of the price :D

The thing is that even though a cat c write off is written off a 2nd time. It's still a loss for the insured. It's like having your house gutted by fire, fixing it on the insurance then selling it on. Surely another insurer isn't going to refuse to pay out because your house has burned down before! :D
