The bulkhead end of the sill rail is a fixed bracket. The tub end has a separate bracket that you bolt on.

Poor image, but you can just make out the rectangular slot on the right hand side that the upright bracket bolts through. This gives you enough adjustment to play with washers on the bulkhead to outrigger bolts.

If you look through the pictures on this eBay listing you can see the rectangular slot on the end of the sill and the separate brackets.
On the second picture down it doesn't look like there is an adjustable slot, but there is.

Tha I you I will have a look at that next time I am there. Can you access those bolts with the seat box in place? I hope so really don’t want to have to remove that!

Pretty sure you can on the 90. Not sure if the arrangement on the 110 is the same. It might be, so get on your back and look up under the front of the tub where the sill meets it.

Little more progress. Although it is a long way off being fitted I have completed the refurbishment of the replacement wing for the one that was melted. The before photo makes it look far better than it actually was, there was lots and lots of cracked filler and it was a long way from straight, But it was very cheap. After a lot of sanding and some panel beating it is straight enough that it matches the rest of the vehicle and it has now has its final coat of paint. i could have improved the finish if I had skimmed it with filler but I am not going for perfect and the other panels are not perfect so this is quite in keeping.

Also quick question on the steering column and pedals. Can you remove/fit the steering column with the pedals in place?
I have refurbished the clutch and brake pedal unit (just waiting for a brake master but done the clutch master), but I am still trying to find the correct early type steering column. Can I fit the pedals to get them out of the way or will I need to remove them again to fit the column?

I'm going to say no as the brake master cylinder will be in the way :. blocking steering column access. When I built mine I installed upper column, brake MC, clutch MC, lower column and then pedals.

The upper column has the steel tab that exits through the pear shaped [ ] bulkhead hole and this needs space to rotate for fitting + there's no room for fitting the upper column mounting bracket with brake MC installed.

Thank you, that was my expectation, I did not want to fit them only to remove them later.

The galvanised sill I have look identical to that. Having loosed all the bolts there was a lot more movement and I have put an additional washer onto the passenger side. I could probably have put a second additional one in but left it with 1 as did not want too big a difference between the two sides (not sure if this would cause a problem) and the door gap is now the same as I was on the old bulkhead. This gives me two washers drivers side and a good door gap. And three washers passenger side and a slightly larger door gap.

I tried to fit the wiper rack yesterday after the previous discussion on here regarding the different style of wiper spindle. Although there being no difference in their functionality there is a difference in their size as I discovered yesterday. The later version with the nut to secure the wiper arm are considerably larger in diameter than the old version and do not fit my bulkhead. (Same m6 bolt for scale)



The way these had been fitted to the parts bulkhead I am using is for a larger hole to be messily drilled:



As I do not want to do this because the bulkhead is zinc plated and despite being sure I could Do A better job still not being designed for the larger spindle I will look at alternatives. I will see if I can get an old style Spindle. I have looked at the condition of the fire damaged ones and although they would Probably clean up and be reused with a bit of work (no play) I would rather have a replacements with everything else I am doing as part of this rebuild.

On a more positive note I did manage to do some more of the cleaning of interior. As I am not a car detailer and have never been interested in such this was all new to me. But a quick chat with a mobile valeted who was working on someone else’s car at the farm recommended me this product:



although after some research it seems to be a fairly standard and very common all purpose car cleaning product it was not one I was aware of as I do not clean the land rovers (other than the underside). However it is a great product that instantly cuts through all the tar like Smoke damage you can see here. I would definitely recommend it and reading the bottle it is safe to be used on virtually everything.


(please note the roof was not white white before the fire so the clean panel is as clean as it was before and it is not smoke residue)

Been in the shed & moved some stuff,unsure if these are any good to you?
(fuse box cover,head light surround unsure which side & 2 types,dash top

Another time found….
Arm from steering column to steering box. Now it looks like a Range Rover style but with the longer later knuckles(& without that rubber washer) it may fit.

Well done mate, it's looking good.

I am still looking for a 36 spline steering column to be able to progress with putting the rest of the bulkhead together. Does any one have one laying around I could purchase?

They seem to be far less common than the later model steering columns and as I have yet to see anywhere showing me how to replace the bearings a complete replacement seems the only option.

I've a spare plastic slatted front grille and TD5 style (louvred) head lamp surrounds (R&L) if you need, not perfect but in good nick; postage and packing only.

Looking at market prices I'd say yes, providing it's in vgc £140 is a good price. Unless someone has an unwanted spare going for a few beer tokens less.

Thank you for the offer. I don’t need the headlight surrounds but may be interested In The grill. I have not got that far yet. I will let you know.

This is the problem with eBay. I don’t knowing it is good condition without feeling the bearings and movement. But it is currently the only one I can find anywhere.
