I'm looking for a bit of advice on bump stops. I have a discovery 300tdi with a +2" suspension lift. Do I need extended or standard bump stops

Standard are fine, all extended ones do is limit your articulation as they stop the upward wheel travel by limiting the axle.

Some naively believe in them as a means of stopping the socks bottoming out but that isn't the case as the extra droop on the opposing corner pushes them up beyond the stops limits anyways.
 
Interesting, never thought about this. My D1 has heavy duty springs on the rear and the rears were moved to the front. I will have to count the coils and measure the thickness of a coil with a caliper then do the math, to see at what point coil binding would occur, comparing them with the originals which I have kept. This arrangement has given me an accidental 2" lift, never sought nor wanted but I just accepted it. This might offset the need to worry about it all, also I don't do much to get the axles to bottom out.
D2 bottomed out once with a "clang" when I loaded a bit over a stere of wood and then drove back to the main road over rough ground, but then no lift or different springs to original on this vehicle. Bump stops do protect the metal in these circs.
 
Thanks for the replies. I think I need to do a bit of measuring to see what will hit first either the bump stops on the axle witch is fine or the spring becoming coil bound or the shocks topping out. I have plenty of body clearance for the wheels to tuck into the arches as I fitted a 2" body lift and arch extenders.
