bulkhead footwell rotted

mines got a fw holes in it so can i rivet one of these in
Land Rover Defender Stainless Steel Footwell Repair Panel n/s - YRM Metal Solutions
or does it have to be welded for the mot?

Well if its stainless onto mild I think you'd be riveting with ally or using a TIG to weld that in

if its got to be welded then its going to be the cheaper steel one

think you can just rivet it tbh or bolt, if done right it'll still be tough then cover with seam seal etc

I bolted in mine and riveted behind matrix. ,then seamed sealed.still good....

thats my plan bob, the passenger side i think is not in the mot the drivers sides ok at the moment but when that goes think that will be a welding job

easy job,i did the drivers footwell....it was well and truely welded inplace,i got a good solid brake pedal mount and steering mounts.
i would expect if its strong it could be riveted in place as the mot states that the pedal box must be secure so if its secure does it matter if welded or bolted/riveted...i dont think it does.

Yes but he'd need a roll of 309 and its a bit of a waste buying a roll of that for one footwell. Far easier to rivet

on the bolts i used i put in stainles hex heads with nylocks lol....all i had in stock.

i think i used alloy rivets as that again was all i had...bit of a mix n mash but who cares its solid and going strong.

im not a fan of welded joins unless lap welded...

wont get a nice looking weld in a footwell tbh unless you have a large spot welder

I had a large spot welder to weld mine in, his name was John

, he made a good job of it, the YRM panel was a good fit
