Bulkhead advice. Could someone measure they’re bulkhead for me?

Hello there,
I hope this finds everyone in good health.

While not being able to go to work, I’ve been enjoying lots of time on the landy (1962 2a 88”) I have sat the new chassis down. I have replaced most of the underside of the rear tub, centred and bolted the rear of it up. I have now come to weld the bulkhead up. The drivers side had the original pillar, but the foot was basically non existent, and the footwell buggered too. It was wobbling. So no good measurements to take there. On the passenger side, the top of the pillar is original but the foot and lower section had been replaced. As had the outrigger it bolted to.

I have hung the door on the passenger side, and it looks pretty good. But then looking at the drivers side.. with the bulkhead level to the rear tub and the new foot bolted to the chassis. The hinge holes in the foot and new pillar do not align. By up to 15mm.

I know I can set it all level with a sting line down the crease etc.. but if someone has a bulkhead they could take a couple of measurements off I would really appreciate it. From the centre of the foot to top of bulkhead, and possible from centre of the foot to hinge holes. Because I have no good datums it would be nice to know I was in the right shop.

All advise welcome. I’ll pop out and take pics to further explain if needed.

I'm starting a foot and door pillar replacement now on driver's side of my '69 2A 88". I can take some measurements for you with more help about what you need exactly. I have my bulkhead vertical and level now with new and level bulkhead outriggers.

You say the lower hinge holes in your new foot and door pillar section don't align? Do you have the two sections I have, attached as pictures? The pillar sleeves over the foot.. and is ideally welded before fitting, unlike my PO..

Cheers for that mate. I’ll upload some pics now as I’m stood scratching my head with a tape measure in one hand and a coffee in the other.

So I have a replacement britpart pillar, and a YRM foot. Test fitment of the pillar shows that when the top hinge holes are in the correct position, the lower hinge holes don’t align with the foot.

On the passenger side, the foot had been replaced at the same time I assume that they replaced the outrigger. Which was around 1/4” lower than the rest of the chassis.

Do I trust the parts are correct and assume that it all wants lifting?
 
If you hold your driver's door up with the curve flush with the rear tub curve and curve in your door pillar, which holes are correct for where your lower hinge would fit.. the holes in your new pillar or the holes in your new foot?

On the passenger side.. could PO have had this exact problem that side and welded the new outrigger on lower to "fix" it?

Both my new foot and new pillar came from Bearmach.

No. Don't assume your britpart pillar is correct and lift everything else to suit it. :)

If your rear tub is sat right on the chassis, and the bulkhead outrigger tops are flush with the tops of your chassis rails as they should be, and the curve in your rear tub, door, and pillar are all level, then the position of the door hinge holes in your pillar is dictated by the hinges on your door. If your door is standard and the hinges haven't been moved then the holes in your pillar must line up or the pillar's wrong.

I'm popping out to the garage now and will post you some measurements and photos soon.
 
IMG_1528 - From the middle of the bulkhead outrigger bolt hole in the new foot to the bottom of the first lower hinge hole in the new pillar is about 11.5cm. I'm doing that by eye but you say yours is about 15mm out so hopefully that's useful to know.
IMG_1529 - From the bottom of the new pillar section to the bottom of the first lower hinge hole is about 7cm.
IMG_1531 - Offering up my new pillar and new foot to my door the holes in the pillar are aligned with the holes in the door that I know fit my current rotted out pillar and foot.
IMG_1532 - This one is meant to show the profile of the new pillar and new foot.. I'm about to press the foot section into the pillar - it doesn't go snap exactly but it's a snug fit and will only go in with the holes aligned. I couldn't align them 15mm out if I tried, they will only go together with the lower hinge holes aligned due to how they're pressed.

That’s fantastic, thanks so much for that. Just having some snap but I’ll compare measurements. I’m itching to weld the bulkhead... just want it right (obviously)!

Those measurements helped a lot. I ended up questioning the chassis. The one thing I thought would be spot on. And it isn’t quite. All within jiggle room I think. I had been measuring the rear tub/bulkhead hight off of the outriggers. Was struggling to get anything level and measuring correctly. After a while (should have done it right away) I put a length of steel over the chassis rails and measured off of that. The outriggers on the bulkhead and the rear tub are off level by around 1/8”-1/4”. I got fed up of looking at the tape and a spirit level. I’ll go out and see if this new info helps me any tomorrow.
