Got a bit more done today, both the dumbirons are on the front crossmember is welded up and I've done some patching on the bulkhead.
I forgot my camera though so no photos of todays work.

Feels like I'm getting somewhere now with the front end ready for painting.

Well i got a bit done today...
The front end is finished and painted.

The middle bit is almost done, the unpainted outrigger needs replacing still.

The O/S footwell is almost all chopped out ready for some new metal

and I've started repairing the N/S

The edge isnt as dodgy as it looks in the photo, I havent finished the outer skin yet so it looks a bit wonky.

aaannndd finally a quick question, the O/S wing managed to get a bit dented and the paint has started cracking off....

whats the best way to repair it? strip it right back to the metal and start again or just fill the gap and hope for the best?

The floor is a bit wet because although i was convinced I had hooked the loom right out the way the smoke billowing out of the drain holes scared me enough to chuck a load of water down there, when I cut the loom and pulled it out there was no fire damage though so I dont know what made that much smoke in there.

Then thought I could have a go at repairing the front panel, I didnt actually take a good picture of what it was like before but the bottom of it was pretty rusty and falling apart.
The only welding I've done before is on exhasut and chassis where it doesnt matter too much how it looks so this was a bit new to me but I decided to cut most of the bottom out and weld in a length of angle.

I struggled a bit getting the welder set up to weld a thick bit of angle to a thin bit of front panel but I've got it all cleaned up and gave it a few whacks with a hammer and it didnt fall off so I think I've done alright...

I balanced the wings back on there too and it all seems to line up! almost looks like a landy again.

and I've got the drivers footwell welded up and put the brake and clutch back on. That was a bit more difficult than it should have been because either the landy or the new footwell was slightly the wrong shape and I had to add bits on some places and cut bits of other places. I still need to drill through the holes for the steering column but the battery went flat so I called it a day.

Thanks, it's taking a lot longer than I thought it would and there's still a lot more welding to be done on the bulkhead but hopefully it wont be long till I can start looking at the wiring and running the intake hoses.

Has anyone bought the plastic outer wings of ebay?? Just wondered if they were any good?
