broken plastic clutch thingie

evening all.
today on the way home from work my clutch dissapeared, went for the pedal and couldnt feel it. Dreading it had fallen to the floor i killed the engine and pulled over.

What did i find? the clutch pedal UP, and i mean UP. its sitting about 4 inches higher than the brake pedal, and with my long pins i cant hardly get my leg up enough to get on it.

On arrival home i got the torch out to have a look. It would appear the pedal had a small stopper to stop the pedal in the rite position. this would consist of a plastic thingie shoved in a hole.
I can see the clips have failed on the plastic thingie, alowing the pedal to push it out of its hole, and therefore not stop the pedal itsself.

Now, anyone know what this thingie is? it has a wire connected to it, and a single connection coming out which isnt used. Is it a stopper with sensor built in for maybe my not fitted cruse control?

I doubt super glue will hold it in place, so i guess i'll have to buy a new one.

When you push it is it normal? I'm wondering if something has caused it to put too much pressure on the plastic thingy... Next thought, could you substitute a bolt for the plastic thingy somehow..

go into search i'm almost sure this has bin documented with a fix

cheers ming, i did have a search, but the amount to clutch threads, i dont know how to narrow it down, but i'll have a look again.

MARTINL, a bolt and two repair washers maybe, but i'm too big to get in there. the force is usual clutch force, just a tiny plastic snapped. i was kicking down there earlyer to get the fan working.

ming, i cant find it. looked in freelander and common faults. one guy thinks that the switch is the cruise control switch, but why would you use a plastic pooly retained switch as the clutch stop? ummmmmmmm.

anybody reading this fancy looking at there TD4 to see what stops the clutch on returning back up?

surely it should be metal on metal?

anyone going to help me out on this one?

Had a look and yes that 'plastic thingy' (clutch pedal switch) doubles as a stop for the pedal.

My thoughts:

Temporarily. I would probably fit a small wooden wedge in the square hole from the top to stop the pedal rising.

It's an awful location to have to carry out repairs, I put a thick rubber mat over the sill.
