My Disco 300TDi drivers door handle has broken.

The lever you pull to open the door was damaged when I bought it but continued pulling on it has snapped it leaving a small sliver that I now have to grip with pliers to actually open the door.

Anyone know of an easy fix? I hear you have to remove just about everything from the door to fit a new unit and I don't want to if I don't have to. Money is also very tight at the mo and £20 saved on not having to buy a whole new unit would be very handy!...especially as I managed to puncture a rear tyre which isn't repairable and I'll be looking at £160 min to get 2 new tyres :( but that's besides the point...

Ideally there would be a way of simply replacing the lever...as if!

take the interior door pannel off ( carefull with the clips they are easy to break )

leave window fully up inside behind the handle disconnect the 2 controll bars and 1 cable from the lock and lever on the back of the handle

the handle will be held in with 2 x 8mm nuts left and right just about acessable from where you are

the clips on the controll bars are fiddly the way the bars are inserted is pushed in a hole and a little arm that swings round and clips on the bar

but yes it can be removed without striooing absolutely evrything it jusst needs patience

Ah ok, doesn't sound too bad.

So I could transplant the lever from one to another then? If that's correct, do you know if one from a rear handle would work? The rear one's are cheaper.

Thanks!

the rear handles dont have a keyhole but the front ones do on early discos

if yours has a seperate lock barrel away from the handle then yes its perfectly do-able

bit of a hint watch out for bending the plastic pushrod on the spring built into the handle ( just visible from the back )

sometimes these go weak and bend out of place causeing you to have to force the door handle when useing it

if only there was a way of strengthening the fukkin placky rod this would make disco door handles last a hell of a lot longer

I used the step by step guide in this;

when my handle needed doing, it's a very simple job so long as you're patient when easing the clips off but the odd broken one won't be noticed. My top tip would be to make sure you ease the plastic membrane away carefully and stick it back down before putting the door card back on to keep unwelcome drafts at bay.
I bought a replacement handle off Ebay for £7 plus £4 p&p :)

I'll have a gander at that ta. £11!? not fair, cant seem to find one less than £17 posted :(

Taking the door apart is no prob as I've done it a silly amount of times sorting out the window. Never even looked at the lock/handle though so that's all new to me.

I have a new handle at long last... Any idea how to replace the lock barrel with my original one?

EDIT: Don't worry, figured it out!
