I've noticed a small oil leak recently so when our Disco went in for a service today they told the Mrs that the dip stick tube had broken....question is, can it be patched or will it need replacing (I aint no mechanic). Has anyone had this happen to them, & how did ya fix it?

some of em just push in (interference fit) and some have a flange nut at the bottom.
ave a look wot sort yer got, then order a new one and replace it - easy job.

Cheap and relatively straightforward....follow the tube down taking off any P clips or clamps along the way.Now the knuckle skinning bit...get a solid grip of whatevers left of the tube, long nose pliers, moleys, whatever suits, and yank upwards til it pops out:its held in place by 2 O rings and may take some pulling, but just vertical,no wiggling!
To fit the new one its vital to make sure it seats right down engaging both O rings...I found it better to use a long screwdriver to drift it in at the base rather than knock the top and risk cracking it.Go look at it and this should all make sense. If I remember right the tube was under a tenner so better to replace than bodge and risk surprise drastic oil loss!
Good luck and post how you get on.

shocksi;)

Thanks so much for the advice guys, I'll have a look in the morning. I thought it would be a git of a job but sounds like I can sort this one out myself. (especially after forking out for the engine service, inc. cambelt)
