Hams. But if picking them up on a CB there's something seriously out of shape somewhere. as most hams operate on 70cm (440Mhz or 2Mtr 144 to 146Mhz. 10Mtr band is the closest to CB at the following frequencies

28.201-29.200Phone, SSTV, Fax and CW
29.200-29.300 Digital modes, phone and CW
29.300-29.550 Satellite downlinks
29.550-29.700Phone and CW

But at 27Mhz you shouldn't have been getting interference from them. what rig have you got and what bands has it got?

he will get international radio traffic pikey mate depending on the sunspot activity it can be clear as a bell on a fair few uk channel's..

i spoke to a bloke(simon ct1994) from the cab of a jcb on a superstar 3600 running a tornado springer with 10 inch mag attached, clear as a bell on chan 27(27.861) with a radio report of 5 and 7 ..

iternational radio traffic don't have power restrictions or even freaquency restrictions so can be using a kilowatt plate and tune on any freq they fancy..

i used to talk regulerly to a lad in canada from my home base setup which was a 1k plate and tune 90 foot lifter tower with a antrom99 mod2 on a ranger 2950(all naughty kit for the uk)...

just get used to tuning out the skip (radio required with frequency read out not channel) standered radio's use a squelch system but this also lowers the incoming freaqeuncy value...

Clear as a bell it was. The fella in wales could hear me transmitting back, and the fella on the south coast...although I lost him when he was telling me where he was.

If anyone was talking to a clueless northern monkey from Robin Hoods Bay....It was me.

in tech terms its a linier signal amplifier...better known as a kicker in cb talk.

in non tech terms its a box that make's your output power bigger to the tune of 300watts(Fm) and 550watts(am/ssb) :)

The only watts I know about are stamped on the back of amps and PA's. I'm gonna do some research...back in a month.

Proper Legal CB's are restricted to 40 uk channels & 40 eu channels. and a power output of 4Watts. The frequency range for a cb is. 26.965 MHz - 27.405 MHz (CEPT) or ("EU") 27.60125 MHz - 27.99125 MHz UK
