I was actually getting just over 30mpg at EU motorway speeds. Going home from here is downhill most of the way to Liege, and have managed to get the clock to show 99mpg for quite a distance. :) When it runs..

I think the garage man is proposing a regen round the back of his place where he's a got a big concrete pad.

Not sure it will do a proper regen at standstill.
But worth a try I suppose. If that’s what it needs?

Thinking about the event that led to the red and yellow warning triangles coming on, it was after a fast non-stop drive for over 200 miles, then a good uphill climb. After the lights came on and the low engine power warning, there was a burning smell, but the water temperature was normal. Could it be that the car has automatically gone into regen mode? Is that possible? It was working rather hard at the time.

As an aside, with my 52 reg Range rover, it was a PITA for breakdowns. I done the same journey across Europe fairly regularly. almost every time on that journey through the tunnels at Liege, when the tunnel ends where the road goes over the rive, the car would go into limp mode, I'd have to continue through the rest of the tunnel, stop and reset before tackling the long climb. Talking to someone last week, he said he had exactly the same problem at the same place. Is there a magic beam across the road that causes the electrics to go into limp mode, or maybe, more likely, something to do with a sudden change in ambient temperature from a relaively warm tunnel into cold fresh air? I know eurostar had this sort of problems with their trains when they first started running through the channel tunnel.
