Just changed my front pads this weekend. The brake light was flashing on and off when I used the brakes so thought I should do them!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, the replacement pads I bought had a wear indicator on one pad, but the existing pads were not very worn and had no wear indicators.

I checked the fluid levels before I changed them and they were just below max so not a fluid problem.

Strange thing is, the light no longer comes on! The light works fine when the handbrake is on so I know the bulb works, but I am now confused at to what caused it, can't have been the pads as the old ones had no wear indicator, shouldn't have been the fluid as it was just below the max mark.

Do the rear pads have a wear indicator as well?

And one further question, I simply tied the wear indicator back from the new pad as there was nothing to connect it to - is this OK?

thanks,

Mike

what vehicle are we talking about? vented front discs?

yes, there are rear break pads with wear sensors as well. why don't u take a peak at the rear pads?
if you find that the rear pads are fitted with sensors then the front ones should have sensors as well. so try to find the wires to connect them.
if you decide you won't need the front pad sensors, then cut them off.

Interesting point about the wirse being cut, as my Brake wear indicator light is flashing on and off, having looked at the front pads found that the cable was cut, thought is must have been going and finally parted, reconnected with a terminal block, light is still flickering, if you say the rear have them as well, will have to hunt them down as well.
thanks for the info.

On the disco 2 there is no wear indicator. As the friction material on the pad wears, more fluid is pumped into the brake pipes to compensate for the wear. Eventually the low fluid light will flicker and its time to inspect / replace the pads.
