so ive got a 90 cart horse to try and stop with pair of discs at the front and drums at the rear.

has any one got an idea how I upgrade so i dont veer into oncoming traffic and reduce the 1/4 mile it takes to slow down from 60 miles per hour.....

any help would be good....

thanks all

Never had any problem with that setup on a 90 or a 110 but the four disk option is best. Make sure the diffs are the same.

There int no need to upgrade them. Have a look at the calipers/slave cylinders an pads/shoes an discs/drums an master cylinder an servo an oil an anything else to do with the brakes. Cos they shunt be that bad. Mine aren't any worse than those on any car I've owned.

I fitted Disco disc brake back axle to my Def90 and it made a HUGE improvement in braking.

I was quite surprised - the thing just STOPS so much better.

Thoroughly recommended, and dead easy to do.

If you can't fix yer brakes try making your horn louder

There's no point in wasting electricity like that just to make a noise.

The noise of the crash will be quite loud enough.

Seriously though, the Def 90 braking was very much better with the Disco axle fitted, and braking always seemed more stable because the back end wasn't thinking about trying to pass the front end so much.

Yep I can vouch for that my wifes 1984 110 is crap at stopping compared to my 300 defender, I'll be glad when I've finished building the new 300 Tdi 110 for her and the kids.

thanks for all the replies. my 90 is an 87 but have a 97 300tdi in it which is maybe the reason.

Guess its a new back axle then. will bigger discs and calipers make a difference on the front?

Not without having at the very least to weld new mounts for the calipers.

Change the back axle and see the difference it makes. Oh and the size and power output of the engine doesn't change the braking characteristics or distance required to stop.

yes it duz - yu change a 50cc moped engine fur a 6.4 chevy v8 weighing a ton and a half and see wot that duz to the braking performnce!

( i kno wwot yu mean tho);)
