Apologies if I am not following correct protocol. New to forum (and any other forum).

I have a concern. The brake master cylinder was replaced on my 1997 Disco last April (2008) after a complete brake failure. Now last Friday the car was back to the garage because of intermittent excessive travel in the break pedal and I am told that it needs a NEW master cylinder. The car has done just 20,000 miles since last April. Should a major component like this is fail in that sort of time?

hi and :welcome2:,in my umble opinion no it should have lasted a lot longer, was it a genuine l/rover part or a.n. other, take it back to where it was replaced and get them to sort it,if they get funny, just mention the sale of goods act or your local trading standards office.:D;)

after 14 months i don't think you will have a leg to stand on. could be one of any number of reasons that the cylinder has failed (could it be a ****part unit). when you fit the new one make sure you flush the system through so you have fresh fluid throughout.
have they given you a reason for the cylinder failing?
