Hi.

Yesterday, as i was driving to the shops and my brakes decided to fail as i approached some red traffic lights. Fortunately, there was no other cars waiting at the lights in my lane.

I took the car to my mechanic friend today and we checked the brake pads and fluid which both checked out fine.

After pumping the brake pedal, keeping pressure on the pedal and starting the engine, the brake pedal did not decend at all which indicated that the brake servo was possibly at fault.

Upon inspecting the rubber pipe that comes out of the servo and goes around to the right of the engine (RHD), we noticed a T-junction that looked like it had a pipe missing off the end. We looked around the engine bay and could not find a pipe that was out of place, so he put his finger over the end of it and i started the engine to discover that the brakes worked as normal once again.

As a temporary measure, he shoved a small screw in the end of the T-junction (see pictures).

Can anyone tell me, does this t-junction on what I presume is the vacuum pipe normally have a simple cap on the end, or is there a pipe missing?
