Hi all, can't seem to get the pressure back in the brakes. They were working fine apart from the rear which wer,'nt releasing fully.
Replaced cylinders, shoes, springs, pipes upto and including the flexi pipe. Brakes release a treat now
but they won't pressurise, even done a gravity bleed but still no go. Any ideas, suggestions please.
PS, if I pump the pedal they work but after a few seconds gone again, also no leaks anywhere.

Sounds like they need proper bleeding. Pressure bleed from master, vacuum pump at drum or use a clamp to hold slave cylinder Pistons right in.
I know some people use gravity bleeding but I've never got it to work and it doesn't even make any sense to me. It's a bit like astrology.

which version of brakes if 10" single cylinder have you got the springs fitted correctly and shoes adjusted up.

I think I have it sorted. The previous owner had put the springs across the shoes so I thought that was the norm until I read on a thread on here and the Haynes manual where the springs are supposed to go.
Put the springs on correct pega and hey presto they seem to work.
I will know next time, read forums and books first.

its a bit worrying that so many cars have errors on the brakes, both my s1 and s3 had things done wrong on the rears, as did 2 other cars I bought over the years
