I know - I've looked but can't find what I'm looking for.

Got a flare kit Done the job of replacing fron pipes on my 110 but not happy with it.

When I removed the male union fron the master cylinder I found it was a mushroom type and not a flare - I do not have that fitting in my kit - I found a double flare where it flares it out and back in again and it seems to work and passed the MOT!!!

However for me it's not the original fitting and I know it !
Is it possible to do a mushroom type joint with a flare kit or are we better or just joining with a male on to female union ??

just done this on mine, it is a single flare and once fitted the male union sqeezes the single flare to the mushroom you speak of hence creating a seal
 
look in the end of what you fitting brake pipe to ,generally male fittings have a convex (bubble type end )female fittings have concave (socket type )so if you fasten the two together it seals ,but some things need to have a concave end flaring to male fitting so you really need to look ,if hole at the bottom has cone with point facing you use concave flare if cone is facing away use convex ,convex flare is allways made first which ever you want to end up with and turned into concave by second operation with flaring tool

As you probably read it passed - Without front bumper and dumb irons sticking out and a bit of duct tape!

Should I leave the double flare I've done to the master cylinder as it's working okay or is it likely to fail??

Also do you know if you can get hold of the headlight spade terminals that fit into the black three way plug??

What you are looking to create is an OP1 brake flare or Bubble flare as it is often called, this is the "male" end, and an OP2 which is the concave (cupped) female version.

I think a lot of people make them using a standard flaring tool but ideally you want an OP1 3/16 flaring die to get as you say the proper result. None of the £20-30 range kits have this die in them.

Thats exactly what I took off my 110's master cylinder!!
I searched ebay and found a sykes pickavant one so checked there website and it is there called a DIN Convex Single.
To be used on their machine ( 270 Series )
Probably expensive!!!

Whats the point of a 30 quid flare tool if a basic land rover one aint in it eh??
 
are you sure your using tool correctly ,first operation should leave a convex end ,then you swap die and redo to get concave end

Maybe not James.
It was a borrowed kit as mine has gone missing. This did both flare out(convex) and flare back in(Concave) in one operation . It was a very old Sykes Pickavant
Kit. the old g clamp looking one (230 i think)

The one I'm talking about has a flat lip at bottom for male union and domed on top that presses into master cylinder.

Pulled the kit out again and tried. This kit is old and may have stuff missing it has one bit marked op2 which does the first "Normal" flare then the second one that does a flare out and back in on its own has no marking?
Tried the op2 first follow by other bit and it kind of gets what you are talking about but mashes it up a bit - Don't know what I'm doing wrong there??
 
op 2 is second concave fare done after op 1 convex flare,you must have op 1 missing ,.you clamp pipe do op 1 for convex and if you want concave leave pipe clamped and do op 2

Oh well - What I have done seems to be holding so I'll keep an Eye out fo a second hand one (cheap cheap) Any Recomendations??
