The Disco is due it’s MOT soon and I am giving it the once over. Front brake pipe where it meets the flexi pipe looks a bit thin

It looks like one piece of steel pipe all the way to the block

I don’t really want to see copper here as I want to keep it tidy. Can this be joined anywhere nearer the inner arch, or will it be a new pipe, which I guess is stupid money.

new pipe if you want steel

Thats if you can find one ready formed. I have just replaced mine with copper, but I ended up replacing the flexible hoses both sides as the corrosion prevented me from removing the old pipe. I used copper from the block to the flexible coupling on the nearside but used a union to run copper pipe from the near the header tank to the flexible hose on the offside.

How did you create the union. Did you manage to put a flare on the steel ??

I think so.

I have just bought that same flaring tool. Did it do the steel ok. Where did you do the joint?

I didn't use a joint on the passenger side as it was quite short and simple. On the drivers side I didn't see any point in replacing all the neat rubber coated steel pipe and it will take some wiggling to get it through the grommet in the wing. I put the joint near the wing as seen in this photo.

That looks tidy enough. Mine is a bit more crowded in that area though. You obviously managed to flare the original steel pipe though with the flaring tool. Mine is looking a bit better now. That’s not rust by the way, it’s CoppaSlip

I might get away with it this time, but it’s something I want done soon.
