Hi guys, replaced brake master, wheel cylinders and shoes all around new pipes on back flexy on front. Get break pedal when stationary when i drive away get no pedal then brake pedal on second stroke.
Must have bled brakes 5-6 times now and have frim pedal when stationary. Just seem to lose pressure on first stroke when driving.
ANY IDEAS PLEASE.

How long does it take for the firm peddle after bleeding to go away? 'afraid it still sounds like a bleeding issue. (subject to the adjuster checks as above)
Also when there is no pressure, have someone look into the master cylinder as you press the peddle just in case theres a seal problem with the new m/cylinder.

Thanks guys new adjuster shoes and cylinders also brand we master I am running a 1962 series 2 swab petrol with combined clutch and brake reservoir canister.. Fitted by a mechanic (sadly not me)

Check he's done the adjusters then - jack up each wheel and tighten adjuster until wheel will not sping then back off a click or two until free...repeat for all four wheels...

There are some cockwitted mechanics out there that assume they're automatic!

SWB's are meant to be easy to bleed...difficult bit is freeing nipples off. I find if there's air in there it never feels firm whereas if springs/adjusters are wrong your get one pump soft then second pump hard.

thats exactly what i get one pump soft one pump hard will check adjusters and springs thanks guys.when you say springs wrong do you mean wrongly fitted or not there?

Wrongly fitted. IIRC on single leading shoes (Short wheelbase) the top spring should go from a peg to the shoe. People erroenously put it from shoe to shoe and it pulls the trailing shoe back in too far (no adjuster to rest on) so it requires one pump to get it near the drum and another to grab it.

The manuals are not very clear about this, everything I've said above though only applies to SWB no idea on 109's

109 rears have the same set up but larger bits, front has a cylinder and adjuster for each shoe[thats where the bleeding fun starts]some swb have been fitted with 109 brakes by people trying to improve the braking.

Nope, shoe to peg. There's a good pic of a tls backplate in my rebuild thread, am ****ting in my pants about getting a firm pedal after all these brake threads heheheh
