About a month ago I replaced rear passenger side shoes and springs because spring had snapped and it was a mess . It's passed MOT since , I noticed the other day drips of what I assumed was brake fluid on inner tyre wall so I took brake drum off . All inside is clean and intact , could this be anything else? , on a long journey there's awful rubber burning smell coming from rear of Landy , brakes still great , could it be dripping from rear of cylinder , I've righted bleed screw and it doesn't seem to be dripping . Also it never seems to drip whilst standing , I've never actually witnessed it dripping

I had a minor leak like this. The brake cylinder was only weeping but the fluid travelled around the inside of the drum and found its way out of one of the drum water drain holes and eventually just a spot or two on the inside of the rear wheel. It was barely noticeable when I took the drum off to inspect but only a couple of drips goes a long way. Cheap to fix though.

Axle vent is a small bell or banjo fitting on top of the axle casing. They do block up and can cause a little pressure inside, pushing oil passed the seals.
You should be able to see the difference between oil and brake fluid though.

Funilly enough I was playing with the adjusters yesterday before the MOT and guess who is going out today to investigate fluid on the inside of a tyre

The fluid is clear and just slightly thicker than water , this looks to me like brake fluid as I have changed brakes and cylinders in the past, what does oil from seal look like? still cant find a wheel cylinder leak anywhere , have stripped it down , cant see a thing.

Wozit taste like?

It doesn't smell of cat pee , however smells bad like hot rubber when hot on axle and tyres , tastes rusty like Irn Bru

Brake fluid.
Metallic with hints of astringency. Are you getting any battery terminal with sweet chestnut. I find dot5 lacks any noticeable red berry undertones but more than makes up for it with deep olive grove and parsnip.

Chin chin :D

I have located the Axle vent , i will get it off and give it a clean. i notice on internet that some have a pipe going from them vertically, mine doesnt and there isnt sign that there ever was one , is it missing or are there variations?
