anyone got any suggestions for finding good quality brake drums? i have a squealing issue going on with one corner and after a look around it today i couldnt find any direct causes other than two cracks in the drum going from the retaining screw holes to the centre. given that the squeal only shows up when its hot and that corner is significantly hotter than the rest after a trip it stands to reason that it has distorted. i have heard loads of horror stories of new drums being oval and poorly machined so i want to avoid that obviously. i wont use britpart, after having their parts fail on me in a couple of nasty ways before i have no trust in them for safety critical parts at all. i also dont want to pay more than i have to if there is no real difference between makes. bearmach have always served me well in the past but it would be good to know if there are any particularly good bets around as if anything deserves the money its the braking system.

"Everyone" seems to like Bearmach

You're not by any chance towing heavy trailers and riding on brakes though are you?

well, bearmach doesnt usually cost too much more than britpart but so far the quality has never been an issue. so as a rule they are my go-to unless there is something that comes highly recommended.

i dont do any towing with it, dont even have a hitch fitted. i also tend to be pretty sparing with the brakes and make more use of engine braking when i can. the cracks are most likely a fatigue thing, they have been on for a long time. the cracks are not open but they are there, they might be old but i didnt see them a few weeks ago when i put new shoes on. i could have surfaced after being disturbed.
