Brake Disc protectors/deflectors

I got a stone trapped in my front brake disc protectors on my 300 while laning... anyone who's had this happen will know the horrible head turning squeal this makes...

It's happened a couple of times now and I've heard mixed opinions on: keep them on or ditch them...

What's the consensus on LZ..???

keep them till they fall off by themselves

had a look at both the other cars on my drive with discs and they both have a similar thing.. even though they are not 4x4 type vehicles.. so I guess they are probably quite good on the road at stopping stones kicking up at your discs.. pain in the derier off road or on lanes though..

Mine are falling to bits, but I reckon that once they are totally shot I will buy another pair so long as they aren't daft money.

I agree that they can be a pain sometimes, but they must serve some sort of purpose, musnt' they?

I have removed them all on my Discovery as it stops mud and stones getting trapped and it is also easier to clean it all off with a jet wash. Also brake pad wear can be more easily checked.....speaking of which.....

.....increased inner brake pad wear has been experienced by some people as the shield stop road dirt from spraying up into the brakes.

It entirely depends upon the useage of your LR.

Well my 300 is my camping/laning machine and not an every day drive, so I may just take them off...

I suffered a spate of stones in the discs for a few weeks, which we assumed was a brake deflector that had been bent out of shape and was scooping up stones rather than deflecting them! After straightening them out we've only had one stuck. If it happens again I'm of the opinion, and having looked closely at them both on and off the Disco, that I'll remove them. I can't see any real world benefit from them.

The only useful thing they do is keep any oil or grease that's leaking out of your swivel ball seals off of the brake disc.
I haven't had them on my Fender for ages.

They're a pain in the arse, bin em.
