Hi,
So I've got two issues. The first one is something I've posted before but wasn't able to find a solution.
Brakes: Basically the fronts seem to be sticking on intermittently. Every now and then, I get the feeling something is resisting, pull over (discs are hot), loosen the bleed nipple, a little fluid squirts out, pressure is released and it moves freely. Sometimes if I just wait a few minutes, the pressure seems to release automatically. It is almost like there is something that is acting as a slow return valve. Happens on both sides simultaneously but not the rears. All new brake pipes, flexis are new, front calipers had new pistons and seals etc. Biasing valve, servo or master cylinder has not been replaced.
Does anyone have any ideas??

Steering: So when I am moving the landy out of parking spaces or turning around, I get a squeal and the steering is all juddery. I have tightened the belt, I have loosened the belt, I have had a new belt and it still happens. It is fine when i am driving.
My next port of call is going to be to re bleed and make sure it is at the correct tightness. Does anyone else have any suggestions as to what it could be?
I was kind of thinking maybe the actual power steering box is dying however I am pretty sure its a belt squeal. Also, just to make sure I get it to the right tension, what would you fellas suggest is the right amount of slack so to speak, i.e half inch of movement, inch etc??

Thanks,

Jasper

Have you tried known good calipers ?

The pistons may be not returning properly and catching in their bore/s ...

Steering : have you changed the fluid ?

Could be the pump rather than the box ?

Power steering pump, as above have you changed the fluid? What was the old stiff like? Metal flakes ect?

As for your brakes, if it is both fronts sticking I'd try a master clyinder,

Another thing to think about is the adjustment on the servo. The rod that sticks out of the servo that bears on the piston in the master cylinder can be adjusted. Try winding it in a bit. It'll give you a little more travel on the brake pedal before the brakes start to bite but might stop them binding.

No I haven't tried known good ones but when I re conditioned them, they seemed to work smoothly. Since it works after the pressure has been released, I am inclined to not think it's the calipers at fault

Yup, changed the fluid and it was all fine

Yeah, the fluid has been changed and it was fine, no flakes or anything. But I'll have a look at the pump. It hadn't crossed my mind.

Ah okay, I'll give this a go. Hopefully its something as simple as this. Don't fancy spending any more money!

Thanks all the your advice. I'll have a tinker today and report back

If its a 200tdi check the power steer pump bracket isn't loose as the belt mite be tight enough but when you turn the steering the bracket moves and causes the belt to go loose then tightens up again once you come off the steering, just had all this with mine had to remove the engine in the end to sort it out as 3 of the 4 fixing bolts was snapped / missing

Right so, I've sorted the steering. Turns out the belt was a bit slack!
I havent changed anything brake wise but I am going to have a go at winding the rod in a little bit and see if it works.

Thanks for the help chaps
