I want to replace the bracket on the underside of the bulkheadpillar while it is still in the vehicle.
When I take the bolt and nut out won't the bulkhead drop?
The footwell is also no longer attached to the chassisbracket..

What would be the best way to do this? Thanks in advance bracket.jpg chassissteun.JPG

WOW... this one is a nightmare I am afraid if the Series is anything like the Defender.... The bracket is welded in place.. you need to find the spot welds drill them out for it to drop.
The pic you posted is the same as a defender one.

If the bracket that goes from the bulkhead to the main chassis rail [right in pic] is still firmly in place there is little chance of movement in the pillar bracket.

Thanks for the reply but that's exactly the problem. The bracket is no longer attached to the bulkhead. I'll think of some other kind of support to prevent the bulkhead of collapsing :)

I'm trying to get the L-shaped bracket out of the bulkheadpillar.
I know its spotwelded in and already drilled some of them out.
I am working in the lefthandside and it looks like the spotwelds are only on two surfaces of the bracket; on the frontside and on the outside (where the hinge is)
Is this correct? Anyone done this before?

These things are commonly replaced as they rust....mine were spot welded in place but I was replacing the lower quarter of the frame the bracket is welded to as well so....I chopped them......its far better idea to attach the main chassis to bulkhead bracket when replacing these brackets....I did and I had previously welded in New footwells....keeps everything in place and you can check alignment is correct as you proceed......its the correct way to do it.......Chris

I follewed your advice that is; half of it. The part were the cut-outs for the hinge and the frontwing are weren't rusted so I left them. The rest I cut out. Much easier to get the remains of the bracket out. Welded the new bracket in first and after that some new iron to reconstruct the pillar. Still took me all day :)
