Bought me lad this for Xmas..

I used to have to build rc crawlers with lathe motors, alloy tubing and bits of Tamiyas but they're readily available now so I treated my son to a Maverick Scout for Christmas..



He was well chuffed as it meant we could combine his (our) two hobby's and still get cold and muddy on Boxing Day..



For £118 it's very well spec'd and comes RTR with 2.4gHz radio and NiMh stick pack.. best thing though is it's waterproof.. game on!



Due to it's low gearing and mild motor it gave us an hour's run on one charge of the supplied 1800mAh battery so it should go all day with one of my 3800's in it..

We reckon it's pretty good now but future plans include a Landrover bodyshell, alloy shocks & carbon bits (he's young bless him) rear wheel steer and more extreme tyres.. might even have to buy one for myself..!

Having a low gear sounds a good idea, the ford bronco 2wd jobby I had years ago only went flat out or stop . but if you slammed it in reverse at full tilt it would spin out

many years ago my dad bought me a petrol remote control monster truck for christmas he lectured me on being gentle its very quick etc so im on the drive (big ass drive) running the engine in and he comes out let me have a go son and full pelt in to the gate post, they are great toys just dont let dad touch lol

I bought my lad one last Xmas, in a year is gone through 2 props that's it, the torque is so good that if you get a wheel stuck the thing will snap a uj on the prop. As for battery life, well it just keeps going and going and going on a 3800 battery. The body is weak but otherwise they are a cracking bit of kit. Enjoy.

Cheers, yes the body will be changed.. It's handy because they've left the body posts long so just about anything will fit.. I'm hoping to find a Discovery2 one for him as he loves them..

I've gotten into RC rock crawling in a big way with quite a few trucks. I got one of these and I was really impressed with the build quality and its crawling ability. You really can't go far wrong for the price too. It will crawl better than the Axial SCX10 and the Tamiya CR01.

I used to use Clodbuster axles for building 1/8 crawlers and Rock Buster innards for making scale 1/10 ones.. yes I had a few trucks myself actually, I counted my collection (all types) in 2005 and was astonished to find I'd reached 68 I've only got a handful of them now mind..

I got a RedCat RS10XT which has motors on axles setup, like the Clod. It's a awesome bit of kit, there doesn't seem to be anywhere that it won't go.
