Unthreading a Shaft Technique - Specific!
I've got a very specific question for those better on the spanners than me! I'm stripping down my coram bottle jack to replace the seals and need to unthread the ram as pictured I've not got a vice and am struggling to find a good way to apply sufficient torque to get it undone - any ideas...

I too would like to fix mine.
I fear I'll need to use a "make your own O ring kit" when it comes to seals.
It is a right royal pain having to carry a trolley jack around with me in case I need to change a wheel!
So I'll be following this closely!

No need for that Stan. You can but a 2T bottle jack and a pair of folding axle stands for a few quid.

I guess I know that. And I have axle stands to throw at dogs including some really high ones. but there is a tiny corner of my being that likes to keep the equipment the vehicle came with working as standard. I have three of them as I have 2 D1s and a D2. The D1 ones travel in their place vertically and of course the D2 one is stored on its side. The D1 ones are fine.
I have no idea if being stored on their sideis an issue.
But I do like them as they are compact and have exactly the right head on them for the job.
TBH I use the trolley jack for other stuff too.
Mine was gone long time ago - it only travelled half height and it's the only hydraulic jack that I ever had a problem with. Still have it in the garage for posterity though Now its space under the bonnet is taken up by several bits and pieces including spare bulbs and a multimeter.

Well, let's say that if water gets in that compartment, I'll probably have bigger worries given that's where the ECU is located.

"stroking"? Do you mean "storing" as that too was my problem. I think it being on its side plus underbonnet temperatures have caused this.

There's supposed to be a bag in the rear doot pocket containing the wrench to take the wheelnuts off, a little pouch containing the locking wheel nut socket (and the stupid, tool that is supposed to take its cover off) two wedges that spin out in ever such a dinky fashion and the jack lever in two pieces.
Maybe it's in the manual?

Very true. LR have turned "chasing leaks" into an art form. Pity you don't find it where it's most needed - on the rear chassis

Machine mart do a range of bottle jacks and I'm wondering if one of them is actually from same manufacturer as that supplied with the car, or a direct copy. If it is, and you want to retain originality, you could get one and nick the seals out of it. A big 'if' though!
Otherwise ebay might have the seals, though you'd have to measure ID, OD, thickness etc. I got some for the fuel cooler that way.
