Just seen the report on BBC news about the flash flood in Boscastle
(Cornwall, UK) - cars tumbling in heaps on a river of muddy water,
astonishing images. Apparently at least 30 vehicles were washed straight
through the town and into the harbour. Glad to say that (so far, at least)
there are no reported casualties.

Also glad that AFAICS there were no Landies suffering an involuntary wading
session. Plenty in attendance in a rescue role, however. The rescue
operation seems to have been awesomely effective. Hats off to those guys.

Anyone in this group in the area? Must have been a tough 48 hours.

Hi,

Two friends are about 5 miles up the road and it seems that one freelander
suffered the fate of floating out into the sea. My friends have commented
that the rain was unbelievable - it was like hurricane rain they had seen in
Florida.

What is the weather coming too??

I was camping just down the coast last week at tintagel, came home early
when the weather started getting wild. Went to the beach one day at low tide
and there was still no beach due to the size of the swell holding the tide
in.( Biggest waves I have ever seen) according to life guard chap this was
caused by the hurricanes in Florida , it was good watching the pros surf em
though.
Went to Boscastle few times a really gorgeous spot SWMBO and daughter
spent nearly 2hours in the museum of witchcraft which was right at the side
of the harbour (hope it still is ) the guy who ran it had a superbly beaten
up 2a truckcab. Anyway well done to all involved in rescue and clean up
effort. Fingers crossed still no casualties.

I'm about an hour away,
due to the volume of water coming down I had one room flooded to about
3 inches..

Was it green?

The front page of the Glasgow Herald has a SWB series motor upside down in
deep mud - not much more than chassis and wheels visible. I'm sure I saw a
white Disco floating through the village in one of the TV reports last
night.

And as you say, fingers crossed still no casualties.

Today Graham King, owner of the Museum of Witchcraft, was able to
venture into the building to witness first hand the damage left behind
by the flash floods. The structural damage is severe. The lower floor
is unrecognisable; 5 feet of mud fills the corridors and booth area.
Display cases are upturned and contents missing.

On a more positive note the upper floor and contents appears to be
mainly undamaged, as does the library and museum archives. The Museum
will take time to recover but rest assured it will be back, restored
to its previous splendour.

There was a picture in todays Mail, showing a Range Rover Classic
upsidedown on it's roof, having been washed away.

That makes me worry about Trevigue the farm house, hostel and wonderful
restaurant (that uses local produce) that is out on it's own N. of
Boscastle. It's one of my favourite places.
