I need to remove the internal boot trim on te drivers side to get to the wiring behind the lights to wire in tow bar electrics.

I removed the 'toggle' style clips but it didn't seem to have much give and felt like I was going to break something in the process.

What else needs to be removed/undone/unscrewed to get this side panel out?

On a side note whilst doing this I lifted the corner of the boot carpet and it's wet - is there a common place for water ingress anywhere??

Cheers

Have you undone the screws in the catch point for the luggage cover There is one screw either side by the side quarter windows and there is the mount point for the Rear seat belt bolt that is a Torx well was on mine. then i think the edges are held in by the door sill rubber, you might have to undo the trimplastic that goes across the ffloor The bit that is under the Door when closed, Either 4 or six small torx screws and metal v clips underneath it as the side trim goes under it

water is probley (in my experience) is coming from the rubber door trim i found that on mine the side of the rubber that pushes over the edge of the bodywork was not gripping corret so i went round with a pair or mole grips with a tea towel over the gripper part of the grips and clamped all the way around no problem since that was about 2 years ago.. all i can think of at the moment

Really cant understand why people do not use the socket provided by LR instaed of phaffing around sorting out wire colours and making up their own connections. The insulation displacement connectors (small blue blocks) work harden the wire as it is pushed into the slot and together with cutting the insulation weakens the whole wire making it prone to fatigue under vibration. The contact area is very small and is prone to corrosion due to water ingress from condensation, in all not a classic design.

At least this is one area where LR get it right by providing a proper connection.

Sounds interesting - perhaps you would like to tell me a bit more about this connection and I could Dave myself a lot of time??

All L/Rs are equiped with a socket which supplies all the necessary leads for the towing connector. In the case of the Freelander this is located behind the boot trim on the off-side of the vehicle just forward of the rear pillar. There is a large grommet in the floor pan just below it.
A ready assembled cable is available with both connectors and a new grommet, with proper seal. Couldn't be simpler, push old grommet out, feed in connetor through the floor and push in the new grommet. Two screws to attach the 12N socket and a bit of tape to tidy it up and its done.
Sorry I dont know the part number but someone can tell us.
